Compounding Medicine for Your Thyroid

What is your thyroid and what does it do?

People who have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism have issues with the thyroid gland in their body. This gland plays a major role in metabolism, growth, and development of the human body. The way it works is your body needs help regulating lot of things, this could be energy, whether you are getting hot or cold, and even pregnancy. The thyroid sends out hormones to help your body recover as it goes through those changes. If you have been diagnosed with a thyroid issue chances are your body is either making too little, or too much of the hormone that is needed.

When you have been diagnosed with a thyroid issue there are usually just a few treatments that you can go through with like:

  • Anti-thyroid medication: This medication is used to stop your thyroid from making hormones.
  • Radioactive Iodine: This treatment damages the cells of your thyroid, stopping it from making levels of the hormone that are too high.
  • Beta- Blockers: These medications do not stop or encourage the production of the hormones, rather it keeps them under control.
  • Surgery: Finally, there is the option of surgery. The doctor may choose to completely remove your thyroid if they decide this is the best option. If this is the course that is taken, then you will have to take thyroid replacement hormones for the rest of your life.
