Tips for Avoiding the Flu
Flu season isn’t over yet! You might have noticed that some of your coworkers have been sick. Maybe your family members haven’t been feeling well. Sometimes, you take all the precautions you can, and you still wind up getting sick. However, it’s still important to make every effort to stay well. So, in this blog, we’re going to discuss tips for avoiding the flu.
Wash your hands. While this tip may seem obvious, many folks don’t wash their hands fully. According to the CDC, you should wash your hands for 20 seconds, using plenty of soap and warm or cold water. Many times, people are in such a hurry that they hardly wash their hands. They wet them, add some soap, lather for about four seconds, and consider it “good enough”. It’s not good enough if you get sick, though. The CDC also suggests singing the popular “Happy Birthday” song all the way through twice or simply counting to 20.
Healthy eating. Keeping up a strong immune system is crucial, and your diet plays a huge part. Consuming a diet that’s high in fruits and vegetables can help. Also, make sure that you are drinking enough water. When your body is consuming the right things, it’s easier to maintain a strong immune system. However, when you eat junk food or drink lots of pop, your body can feel weighed down or bloated and could even be more likely to get sick.
Get enough sleep. You might think five or six hours of sleep is enough, but you really should give your body a minimum of seven hours of sleep per night. Ideally, you should get eight or even nine hours of sleep. When you are running on low sleep, it becomes harder for your immune system to fight off illness.
